Fernandinho Extends Man City Contract

Manchester City has decided to appreciate one of their consistent performers over the years in Fernandinho. The club offered him a new deal and the player has agreed to extend his stay at the club. He is now bound to the club until the summer of year 2020, based on the new terms.

The Brazilian has been a key component of the club through various leaderships over the years. He has been very helpful as the Citizens have a 12-point gap in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola sees Fernandinho as “one of the best three holding midfielders in the world.” He has praised the quality of Fernandinho, adding that himself would not have made the team during his days.

With Fernandinho’s brilliance, there is an uncertain future ahead for Yaya Toure. The Ivorian is expected to exit the side this summer when his deal with the club expires. This would be the second time that Toure has to exit a Guardiola-led side, with the first being at Barcelona. Toure has been linked with numerous sides especially the Istanbul clubs.

City has been linked with a move for Michael Seri of Ligue 1 side Nice and Fred of Shakhtar Donetsk. Either of them is expected to join in and be the backup for Fernandinho.

Fernandinho said he was very glad with the deal as he wants to remain in City for as long as possible. He says he is happy with the manager as he feels they can play “attractive, attacking football” and “win significant silverware.” The World Cup hopeful has won the Premier League and EFL Cup under Manuel Pellegrini before the EFL Cup victory over Liverpool in 2016. He is one of the leaders in the team, alongside David Silva and Vincent Kompany.
