Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny is an injury doubt ahead of the Carabao Cup third round clash with AFC Wimbledon. The Gunners will play hosts to the League One side for a place in the fourth round of the competition. Elneny is doubtful for the game billed for the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

Egyptian international Elnenyis a big doubt for Arsenal ahead of AFC Wimbledon clash due to the hamstring problem picked up in the Premier League clash at holders Manchester City. The former Basel player sustained the injury after coming on as a second half substitute for the Manchester City game which ended in a 5-0 win for the hosts at the expense of the Gunners.

The aforementioned injury forced Elneny to miss two World Cup qualifiers for the Egyptian senior national team earlier this month. He was not in the Egypt squad for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against visitors Angola at the start of the month and als0 missed the nextqualifier at the home of Gabon. Without Arsenal midfielder Elneny, Egypt were able to record four points from the two games.

Elneny has missed the last two Arsenal games in the Premier League due to the injury. He was missing for the slim win over Norwich City and Burnley. Gunners skipper Pierre-EmerickAubameyang scored the only goal of the match for the 1-0 win over visitors Norwich City before Martin Odegaard provided the only goal from a well taken freekick to propel Arsenal to a 1-0 away win over Burnley.

Egyptian midfielder Elneny had earlier figured in the Arsenal squad for the first three games of the season as far as the Premier League is concerned. Elneny was on the Arsenal bench for the London Derby defeats over Brentford and Chelsea before he made an appearance in the second half of the Manchester City game. Elneny could return for the Carabao Cup game with Wimbledon after returning to training earlier than expected.
