N’Golo Kante insists Chelsea can’t depend on Eden Hazard always

France international N’Golo Kante has stressed that Chelsea cannot depend on Eden Hazard everytime to get them out of danger. The Belgium international has enjoyed a top season with the Blues where he has already reached double figures in terms of the goal tally but the club have still been far off from challenging for the Premier League title.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Kante admitted that Hazard has been hugely helpful towards the team’s progress this term but there should be performances from other areas of the field in order to ease the burden on the Belgian, he said: “We all know Eden is a fantastic player, he’s helped us a lot during this season and the seasons before. He can make the difference at any time, but we need to count on everyone. We created chances that we missed. It’s a difficult moment but we need to bounce back.”

Chelsea have not been entirely impressive with the striking department during the ongoing campaign and they have managed just six league goals combined from the feet of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud. As such, there has been the increased dependence on Hazard, who has bagged nearly twice the tally as the two frontmen and this should pose a concern for the manager.

The west London club recently settled for a frustrating 0-0 draw against Southampton at the Bridge and the game witnessed an average performance from Alvaro Morata, who lacked the precision with the shots on goal. Despite the result, the Blues have remained firmly in the fourth position on the table but they are just three points ahead of Arsenal.

Meanwhile, injuries have further hampered the attack front with Willian recently sustaining a knock against Southampton and the club could face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup this weekend with the Brazilian, Pedro, and Giroud on the sidelines.

Christian Eriksen speaks after last-gasp winner against Burnley

Denmark international Christian Eriksen has spoken about the need to pick up regular wins after Tottenham Hotspur’s slender 1-0 triumph over Burnley on Saturday. The north London side had come into the game on the back of successive league victories and they managed to maintain the streak against the Clarets, although they had to fight vigorously with Eriksen only managing the winner in the 91st minute of the game.

Speaking after the game, Eriksen anticipated a fruitful festive period for Spurs and stressed that they cannot afford to drop any points, if they are to remain aloft in the title race, he said: “The games are so close to each other if you drop any points to lose ground getting to first place so getting in a flow like we are now feeds confidence. It should be a good Christmas I hope. We try to win every game, it is not only around at Christmas we want to win all the time. We are in a good situation, we have a lot more points than we had before and feel confident going into any game.”

With the victory, Spurs have capped out an impressive week where they managed to reach the round of 16 stage of the Champions League after overcoming Inter Milan on the head-to-head record. Spurs are presently third in the Premier League standings with 39 points on the board and they find themselves five points adrift off table-toppers Manchester City. However, the gap to the top could extend to six points, should previous leaders Liverpool win against Manchester United on Sunday.

Next up, Spurs are scheduled to make the trip to the Emirates for the League Cup quarter-final against Arsenal on Wednesday night and they will be determined to put up a strong showing after being outclassed in the Premier League derby earlier in the month. During that game, Spurs had a 2-1 lead at the break but the Gunners came with a strong response thereafter to seal a 4-2 triumph.

Rio Ferdinand urges Manchester United to start Marcus Rashford regularly

Manchester legend-turned-pundit Rio Ferdinand believes the Red Devils should start Marcus Rashford on a regular basis, if they are to get the best out of his abilities. The 21-year-old has been in-and-out of the starting XI for the Red Devils during the opening campaign but he has nevertheless scored vital goals including the winner at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Speaking after that game, Ferdinand highlighted that Rashford has the potential to become a world-beater but needs to be nurtured on the right path with regular gametime, he told BT Sport: “Marcus Rashford is a great talent who needs to be nurtured. Mourinho has given him opportunities, he’s played many, many minutes.

Arsenal legend defends Romelu Lukaku amid the recent goalscoring drought

Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Paul Merson has backed Romelu Lukaku to come good for Manchester United despite his recent goal drought. The Belgium international started the season in a good note with four goals coming in no time but he has since gone through a run of eight matches across all competitions for United without scoring.

As such, there has been plenty of criticism labelled towards the former Everton man but Merson feels the blame should be put on the players behind him who have not created enough, he told Sky Sports: “Lukaku went to Manchester United to score bundles of goals and get bundles of chances. He’s playing in a team at the moment, up front, on his own, that are playing like a bottom-half team… a relegation team. He should be getting seven chances a game at Old Trafford. Does he trust the players he’s playing with?”

Harry Maguire pens long-term contract with Leicester City

England international Harry Maguire has quelled the recent speculation over his future by penning a fresh five-year contract with Leicester City. The centre-back was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer transfer window but a deal never materialised with the Foxes refusing to listen to offers.

Since then, Maguire has featured regularly for the Foxes through the Premier League campaign and he has now committed his future to the club until the summer of 2023. He told the club’s official website: “Ever since I came to this club I’ve always reiterated how good they’ve been to me. West Ham United chief refutes speculation surrounding Javier Hernandez

West Ham United sporting director Husillos has refuted the ongoing speculation linking Javier Hernandez with an exit from the London Stadium. The Mexico international had an underwhelming return to the Premier League last term as he struggled to nail a starting spot and this has associated him with a probable departure from the club.

However, speaking to Marca Claro, Husillos has dismissed the transfer gossip by citing that the player could play an influential role under new boss Manuel Pellegrini next term, he said: “Offers? There surely won’t be any because people know we have him. For the moment, he’s not on the market at all. His [Pellegrini’s] style favours attacking players, because it is to maintain possession, attack, reach the area and create opportunities. The forwards in general are benefited by this type of play.”

Tony Mowbray Targets More Intensity from Blackburn in Upcoming Friendlies

Tony Mowbray says that he is hoping for a much better intensity from Blackburn going forward. Blackburn are preparing for the third pre-season friendly and this will be only the first time that they play at Ewood Park at the start of this campaign. After having getting promoted back to the Championship, Blackburn are hoping for a much better improvement in terms of fortunes. The team has been involved in draws against Port Vale and a win over Hibernian so far in the friendlies. There are still a couple of friendlies against the likes of Liverpool and Everton to look forward to for Mowbray and his team.

The new campaign for Blackburn begins in the first week of August when the team takes on Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Mowbray may expect a greater intensity due to the increasing level of fitness for the players. After starting out in a slow and decisive fashion, Blackburn will be building up their fitness levels in the next few weeks. This bodes well for the start of the season. So far in the summer transfer window, Blackburn have been relatively quiet. They have brought in highly rated youngsters Joe Rodwell and Jacob Davenport, while Elliott Ward and Liam Feeney have left the club from last campaign. It was extremely important that the club spent only one campaign in League One.
